Course Description
Examine the basic principles and operations of AutoCAD including: the AutoCAD Interface and workspaces; AutoCAD 2-D drawing, editing and viewing commands and concepts; layers, colours, lineweights and linetypes; creating text, dimensioning and hatching; using blocks; basic plotting.
Critical Performance:
By the end of this course successful students will be able to create a basic architectural, interior design, mechanical, structural or civil drawing and plot the drawing.
Learning Outcomes:
To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:
- Use the AutoCAD user interface in a productive and efficient manner.
- Navigate the AutoCAD space (modelspace and paperspace).
- Switch between `Classic’ and `Drafting and Annotation’ work spaces, and understand the difference between the two.
- Use different AutoCAD point entry systems to enter points accurately when drawing objects. Properly use object snaps to specify points.
- Work with basic and advanced draw commands.
- Use different selection methods to select objects. Work with modify and edit commands.
- Use layers, colours, linetypes and lineweights to create simple professional drawings with proper lineweight and linetype.
- Add text and text styles to a drawing.
- Create simple non-dynamic blocks and use them in drawings.
- Work with basic dimension commands to annotate a simple drawing.
- Switch between modelspace and paperspace and work with objects in both spaces.
- Set up a basic layout with a properly scaled viewport and plot the layout.
