Course Description

This class is for students ready for the next step after working with commercial sewing patterns. Do you have designer dreams and need help with execution? In this 8 week advanced class we will cover the basic concepts of pattern making and pattern manipulation.

Using basic (half scale) pattern blocks or ‘slopers’, students will create multiple bodice patterns exploring the concepts of dart manipulation, style lines and contouring. Students will learn how to create different bodices, collars, and sleeve patterns. We will not be sewing in this class. Anyone who likes can sew up muslin samples of their half sized patterns as homework each week, and bring them in to go over in the next class. These skills are the foundation of all pattern drafting, custom sewing and fashion design – they will get you well on your way to your career as a designer or just feeling more confident in your sewing skills!

***students must have taken Garment Construction or have equivalent experience sewing garments.
